On Friday, Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh announced that Assam Police had confiscated drugs worth Rs 1,430 crore in the last two years. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was credited for leading the efforts. A total of 5,580 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered in Assam, which is among the top 10 states for such cases. Additionally, the police arrested 9,309 drug traffickers and froze property worth Rs 19.40 crore in the last two years.
The Assam police seized large quantities of drugs, including 239 kg of heroin, 71,902 kg of ganja, 283 kg of opium, 98.68 lakh psychotropic tablets, 4.78 lakh cough syrup bottles, 214 kg of cannabis, and 40 kg of cocaine. Furthermore, the police destroyed 648 bighas of opium and 32 bighas of cannabis cultivation. They also detained 26 habitual traffickers.
Singh added that the Assam police have introduced the 'Drugs Free Assam Mobile App' to curb drug usage. He stated that the state police are committed to eradicating drug trafficking networks under CM Sarma's leadership.
