South Korea-based Krafton's popular mobile game, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), faced a ban in India due to security concerns in 2022. However, authorities have now allowed a three-month testing period for the game, closely monitoring its adherence to India's rules and regulations. If no violations are detected during this trial phase, BGMI is expected to be fully accessible to Indian gamers.
During the testing period, BGMI may have certain limitations on playtime, with specific hours of availability. The developer, Krafton, assured authorities that the game would exclude any graphic depiction of blood, or at the very least, change the color of blood to comply with regulations. Previously, Krafton had altered the blood color to green in response to the ban on its predecessor, PUBG Mobile. The portrayal of blood in BGMI post-lifting of restrictions is yet to be determined.
Krafton expressed its gratitude to the authorities for granting permission to restart the operations of BGMI and assured compliance with all applicable regulations. BGMI has garnered significant popularity, with 24 million concurrent viewers and 200 million total viewers, making it the first e-sports event to be televised on network TV.
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized that this is a three-month trial approval for BGMI, with a focus on issues such as server locations, data security, user harm, and addiction. The government will closely observe these aspects before making a final decision on the game's accessibility in India.
