Hamstring Injury Forces Assam Sprinter Hima Das to Withdraw from Asian Games

In a disappointing setback, Assam's renowned sprinter Hima Das will be unable to participate in the highly anticipated Asian Games scheduled to take place in China. The chief coach of Indian athletics, Radhakrishnan Nair, confirmed this news on Wednesday, citing a hamstring injury that Hima Das sustained back in April.

Expressing his regret, Nair revealed that Hima Das is presently undergoing medical treatment in hopes of a swift recovery. He elaborated on the circumstances, stating, "It is unfortunate that Hima was injured a day before the Indian Grand Prix IV in Bengaluru. She pulled a hamstring and also experienced back problems. Currently, medical investigations are underway, and treatment plans are being devised. Regrettably, according to the policy of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), she will be unable to participate in the Asian Games."

The Asian Games are slated to commence from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, China. Hima Das, also known as the 'Dhing Express,' faced a similar setback during the Tokyo Olympics, where she couldn't compete due to the persistent injury. Her absence was also noted during the Federation Cup held in Ranchi last month.

However, in a remarkable display of her talent, Hima Das clinched the gold medal in the women's 200-meter race at the 3rd Indian Grand Prix held in Bengaluru this past April. Finishing the race in an impressive 23.77 seconds, she left her competitors trailing behind.

While Assam and Hima Das's fans are undoubtedly disheartened by her withdrawal from the upcoming Asian Games, the focus now shifts to her recovery and eventual return to the track, where she has consistently showcased her exceptional sprinting prowess.
