A police operation in Silapathar under Assam's Dhemaji district resulted in a dacoit being injured due to police firing on Thursday. The district has been experiencing several incidents of theft in recent days.
Acting on a tip, a team led by the Officer-in-Charge of Silapathar police station conducted an operation to capture the dacoits who were reportedly heading towards the Milanpur area. The dacoits fired at the police upon realizing they were being followed, and the police had to respond with gunfire in self-defense, causing one dacoit to sustain injuries.
The two other dacoits took advantage of the darkness and managed to escape from the scene to avoid being taken into police custody. The injured dacoit was referred to Dibrugarh for advanced medical treatment.
The police seized two machetes, 15 pairs of jeans, Rs. 13,000 in cash, six track pants, and a white Alto vehicle as evidence.
