In a devastating incident that occurred on Saturday, a tragic road accident took place on national highway 17, connecting Dabli village in Dudhnoi to Borjhar in Guwahati, resulting in several people sustaining serious injuries. The collision involved a passenger bus and an oncoming pickup vehicle.
According to initial reports, the passenger bus, registered as AS 17 B 6898, was en route to Guwahati from Goalpara when it collided head-on with the pickup vehicle, registered as AS 01 MC 8252, which was heading towards Krishnai.
Eyewitnesses at the scene described the collision as incredibly forceful, causing the bus to veer off the road while leaving the pickup vehicle mangled. The driver of the pickup vehicle became trapped inside as a result.
Law enforcement officials arrived promptly and, with the assistance of local residents, successfully extricated the driver by cutting open the vehicle. The driver was immediately rushed to a hospital in Goalpara in a critical condition.
The driver of the pickup vehicle was identified as Noor Ala, a 32-year-old resident of Rampur in Krishnai.
Additionally, the bus accident left 15 passengers with injuries, who were swiftly transported to Krishnai hospital for immediate medical attention.
This unfortunate incident follows another recent incident in Mariampur, located in Assam's Goalpara district, where approximately 50 individuals, including men, women, and children, fell ill due to suspected food poisoning earlier this month.
Reports indicate that the victims had consumed fish during a feast, leading to the onset of food poisoning symptoms. Thirty individuals were admitted to Bikali Model Hospital, while twenty others were undergoing treatment at Rangjuli Hospital. Several critically affected individuals were transferred to Goalpara for specialized care.
Sources speculate that the fish served during the feast may have been responsible for causing the poisoning, with two victims currently in critical condition.
